Our Staycation (part 1)

I just love that word, “staycation.” It’s just come popular recently, with the gas prices being what they are and people staying closer to home during vacation time.

Each year we host our own back-yard camp out. We set up the tent out back and do lots of fun things we’d do if we were camping in a wood. This year we began with a hike along the Gunpowder River.

The kids begged to take the dog with us, which seemed like a disaster waiting to happen–but he was really good, except for the time he tried to eat a frog.

We stopped for a dip and were blessed to meet a great Christian homeschooling family with four children, just a year ahead of us age-wise.

This guy was hard to catch on film, but beautiful to watch.

I love this piece of fish-shaped bark. Nature imitating nature.

  1. Beautiful! Looks like you all are having a lovely time. Still up in the air here but hubby and I just talked through his concerns for the trip (he doesn’t come with us for many reasons and is nervous of DC area.) So that is kind of, vaguely, almost planned out–in a God willing sort of way. 🙂

  2. Your staycation looks marvelous. I used to live in a little town with a river like that …. so inviting!
